One month, full time, Basics Foundation Course

The Basics Foundation Course is aimed at both the beginner student looking to obtain a strong grounding in woodwork and the more experienced woodworker looking to bolster their skills. This is an immersion course for one month. We explore the fundamentals of woodworking from timber selection to marking out and cutting joints, to correct tool usage, sharpening and tuning hand tools, safe machinery use and good workshop practice. This is a project based course and students can expect to make some beautiful items that will be cherished for life. The accumulation of skills throughout the month will allow students to begin working with more confidence from home, or any workshop.

This course is also a great stepping stone for the 2 week Wall Hanging Cabinet Course and 4 week Cabinet on Stand Course.

The class size is limited to four students. Each student will have their own bench and tool board with quality hand tools during the month. Furniture grade materials will be supplied, as will safety visors and ear protection. The School has an extensive reference library including books on technique and design. The machine shop is equipped with all machinery necessary to run a professional furniture making practice.

The School is located just 2km from Samford Village and 25km from Brisbane.
